SI Media and ALTO

SI Media’s YES!MAM and ALTO deliver sustainable media orchestration, providing highly scalable and green disk archive storage.
The collaboration between SI Media and Disk Archive Corporation (DAC) brings together world-class media orchestration and sustainable, high-availability storage. As broadcasters and media houses face exponentially growing libraries, the need for a seamless bridge between active production and long-term preservation has never been greater.
YES!MAM, SI Media’s flagship web-based Media Asset Management platform, now offers deep native integration with ALTO, the industry’s leading alternative to LTO tape and public cloud. This joint solution provides a powerful, end-to-end environment where content can be ingested, managed, and archived with military-grade security and instant accessibility. By combining SI Media’s flexible workflow engine with ALTO’s eco-friendly spun-down disk technology, organizations can finally eliminate the complexity of robotics, data migrations, and the hidden costs of cloud egress.
Key Benefits

Quick Access & Partial Restore: Unlike tape, ALTO provides random access to files, allowing YES!MAM to perform high-speed partial file restores without reading the entire archive.
Lowest Total Cost of Ownership: Eliminate recurring licensing fees, expensive cloud egress costs, and the mechanical maintenance and constant data migration required by legacy tape libraries.
Sustainable "Green" Storage: ALTO’s MAID (Massive Array of Independent Disks) architecture spins down disks when not in use, reducing power consumption to just 0.25 W/TB.
AI-Enhanced Metadata: Leverage YES!MAM’s integrated AI for face recognition and speech-to-text, with all metadata indexed and searchable across the ALTO archive.
"By integrating YES!MAM with the ALTO archive platform, we are giving our customers the best of both worlds: the agility of a fully automated web-based MAM and the long-term reliability of a cold-storage disk array. It’s a game-changer for broadcasters looking to optimize their TCO while staying 'green'."
— Paolo Favaro, EMEA Sales Manager, SI Media

About the Integration
The integration solves the "Cold Data" dilemma: how to keep petabytes of media safe and searchable without sacrificing the speed of modern production. Traditionally, media was either kept on expensive "online" storage or sent to "offline" tape libraries that take minutes or hours to retrieve.
The Solution: Using the ALTO API or ALTO Connect, YES!MAM treats the ALTO archive as a high-performance archive tier.
-
Ingest: Files are ingested into YES!MAM and automatically replicated to ALTO for long-term safety.
-
Proxies: YES!MAM generates low-res proxies for browsing, while the high-res masters stay protected on spun-down disks.
-
Search & Restore: When a user finds a clip in YES!MAM, the system automatically spins up the specific ALTO disk required, delivering the high-res file back to production within 60 seconds.
The Customer Perspective: ALTO + YES!MAM
For the end-user, whether a journalist, editor, or librarian, the integration is invisible. Working within the familiar YES!MAM interface, users can search decades of archives as easily as their local drive.
The combined solution provides the speed of a "Live" archive with the cost-profile of "COLD" storage. Customers benefit from a significantly reduced carbon footprint, local access, and the peace of mind that their most valuable assets are stored in a non-proprietary format, ready for instant use whenever a story breaks.

Danish Parliament - Folketing project
In 2025 Nep Group, the worldwide production company that is managing all the tele production services at the Danish Parliament, started a project to upgrade the existing archive system and to replace the archive solution in use, which was based on Sony ODA, with ALTO. SI Media has upgraded its solution to the latest version of YES!MAM, managing the data migration of the metadata and of the asset library from Sony ODA to ALTO, that is directly controlled via ALTO API. YES!MAM is also integrated with the production system of the Danish Parliament.
Deployment started in Q4 of 2025 and migration is ongoing and will be finalized Q1 of 2026.
