Disk Archive to Address "De-Clouding" and Post-LTO Strategies at NAB Show 2026

Pangbourne, UK – 8 April 2026 2026 - Disk Archive Corporation, the UK-based specialist in high-availability, long-term media storage, is proud to announce its return to the NAB Show, held at the Las Vegas Convention Centre from April 19–22, 2026.

With the industry now reaching a tipping point in de‑clouding and the strategic repatriation of assets from the public cloud, combined with the final sunset of legacy formats like T10K and Sony ODA, Disk Archive will demonstrate how its proven ALTO (Alternative to LTO) solutions deliver sustainable, long term data sovereignty for modern media operations.

The De-clouding Revolution

By 2026, the initial rush to the "all-in" cloud model has matured into a calculated hybrid approach. Media companies are increasingly wary of escalating egress fees and the loss of immediate control over their primary assets.

"We are seeing a massive shift in how media companies value their physical archives," says Alan Hoggarth, Managing Director at Disk Archive.

"De-clouding isn't about leaving the cloud entirely, it’s about choosing the right home for the 'Heavy Lifting' of your media. At NAB 2026, we’re showing how to maintain a high-performance, on-premise or self-hosted archive that offers better economics than the cloud ever could.  In addition to cloud, we are committed to supporting hybrid configurations with legacy technologies, to mitigate risk from technology obsolescence, and Vendor lock-in and ease the transition to a fully Tapeless Cold Archive”.

Beyond the LTO Migration Cycle

With the end-of-life of T10K and Sony ODA platforms, and the constant, forced upgrade cycles inherent to LTO, organizations are searching for a "forever" home for their content.

Disk Archive’s ALTO platform offers a radical departure from the tape-based status quo:

  • No Data Migration: Unlike LTO, which requires a complete rewrite of the library every few generations, Disk Archive’s architecture is designed for decades of data life without "lift and shift" operations.

  • Low TCO: By eliminating hidden costs like drive replacements, software licensing, and migration labour, ALTO delivers the lowest Total Cost of Ownership in the industry.

Innovation in Green Storage

Sustainability is a core pillar of Disk Archive’s technology. The ALTO platform utilizes COLD (Completely Off-Line Disk) storage. By spinning down disks that are not in use, the system achieves ultra-low power consumption and significantly extends the hardware's lifespan.

Open Standards & Vendor Independence

Disk Archive remains a staunch advocate for archive best practices. The solutions are built on open standards to ensure that media companies are never trapped by proprietary hardware or software vendor lock-in. With the benefits of Random Access, allowing for instant file retrieval and partial file restores, ALTO outperforms tape in every modern production workflow.
